In the context of the realisation programmes of Vision 2030, the legal system of Saudi Arabia has been undergoing a significant transformation. This edition explores various aspects of highly impactful legal policy developments and legal reforms that are important for investors, cross-border transactions and also for individuals and everyday dealings. The new laws discussed in this edition govern contracts, tort (specifically the new Civil Transactions Regulation of 2023), new forms of companies, and data protection and consumer contracts. Besides, the ongoing reforms in family law (Personal Status Regulation) and the economic participation of women are also discussed, which are of great importance from a socio-legal perspective.
The recent legal developments examined in this edition are of interest for businesses, investors, and researchers alike. They are important for business enterprises as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has long been a draw for investors and businesses looking to expand their presence in the Middle East. A key component of the successful launch of any venture is a comprehensive understanding of the legal system in which one is operating. As Saudi Arabia moves forward with considerable legal reforms, and new laws are being enacted, we hope this edition on recent legal developments will be an introduction to deeper comprehension of the nuances and complexities of Saudi Arabian law.
